Regular price €189,00 Save €-189,00New from the great Aero, is this recreation of the 1941 Pattern Submariner Sweater issued to Royal Navy crews during WW2.
This classic cream Roll Neck Sweater is knitted in Scotland in heavy duty 6 ply Shetland Wool, especially selected to best replicate the wool used in the sweaters worn by hardy sailors in the harshest of conditions.
In addition they have designed the neck pattern for both comfort and warmth, the roll is knitted not to be restrictive and has extra length to allow to be worn fully raised to protect the face against the elements.
To further replicate the original they've sewn a facsimile of an original War Department label onto the ribbing on the left hand side. The use of external labels was experimented with on various items of issue knitwear for ease of size identification in Quartermaster's Stores. Like the originals, our label is sewn on with a large stitch making it easy to remove. While some wore their sweaters with the label intact throughout their term of duty, others removed the label upon issue.
If you feel you can survive with one wool sweater, we think, this is The one and only sweater for all outdoor use.

About the use of external labels
"The use of external labels was experimented with on various items of issue knitwear for ease of size identification in Quartermaster's Stores. While many servicemen wore their sweaters with the label intact throughout their term of duty, others removed the label upon issue. This sweater was ideally suited for Special Operative Executive operatives on clandestine operations as it doubled for a civilian garment, with the label removed of course! " -Aero Leather Clothing
